How-Tos

These are generally going to be more in-depth walkthroughs with details on each step and pictures to go along with the directions. This category is for a guide that will walk the reader through start-to-finish.

Techniques

These posts focus on a technique that can be used on a variety of applications rather than a single finished product. Something like “How to paint a rust coat”.

Little hacks or words of advice on something that many Gaslanders will probably be encountering in their builds. Maybe a simple way to do something that seems complicated, or an alternative method from what is usually done. Outside-the-box ideas to make people’s lives easier.

Other tips

Get your post ready for the front page

No matter what type of article you write, there are a few things to make your post look appealing on the front page of the site

The first is to make sure to set a “Featured image”

You can find this on the right-hand pane under the “Document” tab

The second would be to make sure to give a brief summary or introduction of your project at the top of your post (A short paragraph or just a couple of sentences) and then make sure to insert a “More” marker after your intro.

Click the “+” at the top-left of the editor window and scroll down

It’s not a big deal if you skip either, WordPress will automatically generate them for you if you don’t specify them yourself.

Promote yourself

Lastly, if you hover over your name in the top-right and choose “Edit my profile” you can edit your Bio and your social media links. These will all show at the bottom of your post in a little “About the author” section. Feel free to link back to any of your projects or self-promote through here! If you run a webstore or anything, make sure to mention it!
